Cuban woman arrested in Miami for running an illegal recovery center

Once again, in a span of less than two years, a Cuban woman living in Miami has been arrested for running an unlicensed surgical recovery center.

Monica Beatriz Garcia, along with her 24-year-old daughter, Laura Garcia, have been arrested on charges of running an unlicensed recovery center for people recovering from cosmetic surgical procedures.

According to Angel Rodriguez, spokesman for the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office: "These centers are operating without a license assigned by the state of Florida and on top of that, many of these people who are working in these establishments do not have the proper training and certification for patient care, as a doctor or nurse might have," he shared with Telemundo 51.

According to investigator García had been arrested in 2023 for the same crimes she is facing now.

Police say the businesswoman provided post-operative care to client patients for several hundred dollars a day, all without a proper license. She also improperly disposed of medical waste, including soiled gowns, and failed to use designated biohazardous waste containers.

Rodriguez (spokesperson for the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office) points out that: "It is a very complicated and complex type of investigation because we are looking at the legal issues, but more importantly, the health and well-being of the patients who are in these types of centers."

This establishment is known as Oasis Retreat Miami, located in the southwest area of Miami-Dade and offers accommodation with prices of $2.600 per week, as indicated on its social media platforms.
