The extreme weather affecting large parts of the United States has caused major disruptions at airports, and South Florida is also feeling the effects.
On Sunday night, numerous flight delays and cancellations were reported, affecting both incoming and outgoing flights.
Miami International Airport (MIA) officials have reported 604 flight delays and 44 cancellations in total.
Fort Lauderdale International Airport (FLL) experienced 469 flight delays and 34 cancellations, highlighting the significant impact of the weather system on the area.
The weather event that has affected the East Coast of the United States since the weekend has also caused significant disruptions at several major airports nationwide.
According to FlightAware, the real-time flight monitoring service, several U.S. airports were facing significant operational issues Sunday night, including Orlando International Airport (MCO), Tampa International Airport (TPA), Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT), Sarasota Bradenton International Airport (SRQ), and Miami International Airport (MIA).
Airports in the northeastern United States also faced challenges, such as New York's LaGuardia Airport (LGA) and Boston Logan International Airport (BOS), both of which experienced significant delays caused by adverse weather conditions.
The weather pattern causing these effects is the same system that brought flash flooding to the Tennessee Valley earlier this weekend and is now moving northeast.
The National Weather Service (NWS) reported in its most recent update that “this same weather system is expected to continue causing flight issues for travelers across the Northeast on Monday.”
