Sergio Rodrรญguez Beristain, a US police officer of Cuban origin, arrived in Cuba to visit his family and landed on the island dressed in his Sheriff's uniform.
Rodrรญguez is very popular on social media and in the past a video of him went viral when responded to racist comments.
In his post on social media, he responded to those who criticized him for his trip to Cuba dressed in uniform.
ยซMany were upset that I traveled to Cuba, my homeland, proudly wearing my uniform as a Deputy Sheriff of Jefferson County, Birmingham Alabama, and thus fulfill my mother's request to see me wearing my uniform. To them I say loud and clear: I WILL NEVER POLITICIZE MY LOVE FOR MY FAMILY!!! NEITHER TRUMP, NOR OBAMA, NOR ANY POLITICAL TENDENCY IS ABOVE GOD, MY MOTHER, MY DAUGHTER AND MY FAMILY!!!!ยป he said.
ยซThank you, Mom, for loving me, for loving me and supporting me in my worst moments, for guiding me through my bad decisions and for accepting when you knew that the path I took was not the right one. Thank you for opening your arms to me when I came back sad and depressed, telling me how right you were. And it's just that a mother is never wrong... experience makes you my best counselor or consolation when I don't listen to what you tell me. Because as always, you know that I have to realize things myself in order to learn and move forward,ยป she said about her mother, who is the reason for her trips to Cuba.
She also posted photos of how she spent her birthday in Cuba.
Rodrรญguez also defended the right to travel to Cuba to see family.
